A toxic gas leaked from a factory in northern India, killing 11 people and injuring nine others.

Citing local media on the 30th (local time), Archyde.com reported that such casualties occurred due to a toxic gas leak accident in a factory area in the Ludhiana region of northern Punjab this morning.

Authorities rushed to the scene immediately following the accident and dispatched the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and medical staff to carry out rescue operations. The area around the factory was sealed off, and local media reported that police were evacuating residents.

An official from the authorities said, “It is not known exactly where the leak started, but it is believed to be in the vicinity of a nearby milk shop and clinic.”

Punjab Prime Minister Bhagwant Mann said police, national disaster response forces and officials were dispatched to the scene, saying “all possible assistance is being provided.”

A local resident also conveyed the seriousness of the scene, saying that the bodies “turned blue.”
