While the candidates for the presidency of Medef had until Friday evening to collect 150 sponsorships, we now seem to be heading towards a three-way race for the succession to Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, according to concordant sources.
Unsurprisingly, the current delegate president of the Medef Patrick Martin – big favorite in the ballot scheduled for July 6 – has crossed without incident the bar of sponsorships necessary to have the right to present himself. It even collected 460 sponsorships, or 82% of the members of the General Assembly of the employers’ organization concerned by the procedure. The number two of the employers’ organization has had time to crisscross all the territorial federations, and has already won the support of a major player in the business world with the powerful UIMM (Union of Industries and Metallurgy Trades).
Two competitors in front
He will face Dominique Carlac’h. After a first failed application in 2018, the 54-year-old entrepreneur claims 345 sponsorships and hopes to shake up the game. “There has long been background noise suggesting that the election was bent in advance. This is not the case, and these 345 sponsorships are a very strong signal. Third possible candidate, Pierre Brajeux claims to have overcome this first obstacle. “He has collected the necessary sponsorship to continue to carry in this new stage to come a Medef of change of course”, indicates one in his entourage, which confirms other employers’ sources.
