Each start of the year comes with its share of good resolutions, whether they are ultimately kept or not. In 2024, might one of them lead to the return of the mask? This is what an campaign, launched on a large scale on Tuesday January 2, calls for, as noted by TF1 Info. The Renaloo, Aides and Ellye associations call for people to wear a mask in enclosed public places, “in solidarity” with the most vulnerable people.

On Tuesday, masked faces began to dot the walls of Paris metro stations, doctors’ waiting rooms as well as pharmacies and other businesses. They are part of the “solidarity mask” campaign. The challenge is to raise awareness among the population of the need to “protect those whom the vaccine does not protect”, as one of the posters writes. An objective which would therefore involve wearing a mask in enclosed public places: public transport, cultural places, shops, etc.
In a joint press release, the three associations underline the need for “solidarity” with the 300,000 people who, in France, are “severely immunocompromised”: organ transplant patients, dialysis patients, treated for certain cancers or HIV positive patients. People who “respond weakly or not at all to vaccination and are at increased risk of serious forms, hospitalization and death”, specify the associations. “One in 20 dialysis patients died from Covid,” they recall.
14% of mask wearers on public transport
However, today, according to a Public Health France survey, published on December 22, on the adoption of barrier gestures, only 14% of those questioned adopted the mask on public transport. Only 15% of French people wear it in the presence of vulnerable people. Finally, still according to the health agency, only one in two people intend to wear it if symptoms appear.
