towards a package from Libya?

Libya might be added to the list of countries that have given up participating in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023. Here are the reasons.

The Libyan national team of local players might forfeit CHAN 2023. This is, in any case, what a statement from the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) released on Saturday December 31, 2022 suggests.

Abdelhakim El Shalmani, president of this body, attributes this possible defection to financial difficulties.

“We follow with regret the measures taken once morest the federation following the request of anyone wanting to hinder the work of the federation and to freeze football at national and international level,” he said.

And continues: “These parties even complained to the courts of the country which decided to block the accounts of the Libyan football federation”.

“We have commitments with foreign technical staff that we have to pay. The national A’ team is in training in Tunisia to prepare for the next CHAN. And if the accounts remain blocked, we risk forfeiting,” he added.

As a reminder, Uganda has already withdrawn for this edition of CHAN. Morocco’s participation is currently on hold.
