Towards a common cyber defense against Iran

Morocco, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are preparing to set up a common cyber defense platform to deal with the Iranian threat. The four countries have held meetings for this purpose, revealed Gaby Portnoy, head of Israel’s Cybersecurity Directorate, to the Israeli public television channel Kan.

“This is a historic meeting. A declaration of the parties on cooperation in the field of cybersecurity against common enemies,” he said. “In July, the Israel Privacy Authority confirmed that Iranian hackers obtained and leaked information on more than 300,000 Israelis by targeting travel booking websites,” recalls the i24 News channel.

Long before the signing, on November 24, 2021, of the military cooperation protocol between the two countries, Morocco and Israel had first concluded, on July 15 of the same year in Rabat, a cybersecurity agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by Yigal Unna, the director general of the Israeli Cyber Directorate, his Moroccan counterpart General El Mostafa Rabiî and the Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudiyi.

Cyber defense issues were also discussed from December 6 to 8 in Tangier, between Morocco and the United States.
