Zoé Longu has a colorful personality. Like its natural or dried flowers, and its vases. But also from the new boutique of this young Tournaisian on rue de la Madeleine and its name: Mother Flower. “For those who speak a little English and are a little rock & roll, they will see an allusion… which I wanted to make much more poetic and cute, she laughs. My mother, on the other hand, dissuaded me from putting it in an image on my sign… which ultimately represents my tattoo with a rose surrounded by other flowers and leaves.”
Passionate regarding decoration (she trained in interior design and building painting at IFAPME), the Tournaisienne discovered her passion for flowers by chance. “During the Covid period and the confinements, I started making compositions using dried flowers. At first, it was to decorate my interior, but ultimately, I showed them to my friends… they wanted them and I mightn’t put them at home… And then, through word of mouth, other people ordered them from me, and I finally decided to embark on this adventure, especially since “There was no florist specializing in dried flowers in Tournai.”
Initially self-taught, Zoé Longu then trained with a florist. “In a funeral center, she smiles . But I enjoyed learning in the field, and even to pay tribute to a deceased person, it is possible to be creative, to add color and life to the floral arrangements.”
On rue de la Madeleine, a few steps from the church, the “mother flower” showcased her talents as an interior designer to present her creations and introduce her world. “I thought, designed, created my workplace from A to Z”she is satisfied.
Zoé Longu also expresses her creativity through her bouquets and compositions. “I also wanted to present natural and fresh flowers, and I offer quite artistic, colorful, original, rustic creations… which are out of the ordinary and have a soul. And this of course depends on the budget desired by the clients ; I adapt to their tastes and their requests!”
The florist notices a growing attraction for dried flowers. “It’s not at all old-fashioned, and today, there is a very beautiful diversity and variety of flowers which allows for more modern, durable and elegant compositions… with the advantage that we can enjoy them for a long time , without having a green thumb!” Bouquets that customers can accompany with colorful and original vases. “I try to select designer vases, but at more than reasonable prices, says Zoé Longu. I also found a system of waterproof paper planters, which can be placed around an old vase or even a plastic bottle, which look more real than life: they look like real designer vases, of all shapes and colors!”
