Tourists brought an increase in car rentals in Patras

One sector where an increase in turnover was recorded nationwide this summer season is that of car rental, a sector which has a direct connection with tourism. What is true at the level of Patras and what was the image of the professionals in our area?

The representative of the company “Avis”, Spyros Christoforatosdescribed to “Peloponnisos” the traffic during this summer: “Indeed, during the summer season, the tourist traffic in the wider region was increased compared to the summer of 2022. Car rentals increased by at least 15%, with prices are down due to greater fleet availability compared to previous years. A significant part of this increase also came from the Patras-Italy line”. He added: “At this point, let me also mention something else that I consider important. 2024 will be a year in which our fleet will be reinforced with electric vehicles. It is something that both the domestic customer and visitors from other countries are now starting to request. All our indications for next year show that we will have an equally excellent tourist season in our region. Pre-bookings for the summer season are already increasing. Let this be an occasion for a broader discussion with the city authorities on how we can make use of this traffic by promoting our valuable tourist products for the benefit of the economy as well as its extroversion”.

The businessman Kostas Pettas, who maintains the company Optimum, which deals mainly with leasing and not so much with car rental, moved on the same wavelength. As he said: “After the covid era, there is an upward trend throughout Greece and in our region. Although I have been dealing with leasing for the last few years, I know that car rental has also increased in Patras, even though we are not a tourist destination. There is also an upward trend in leasing, where we see that now not only companies are involved, but also individuals – from employees to pensioners.”
