A video shared on July 18 on the TikTok social network makes Italians shudder. We see a tourist trying to fill her water bottle at the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome.

A lack of tact that did not go unnoticed. A tourist was filmed on TikTok climbing on the Trevi Fountain in Rome. In this video relayed thousands of times on social networks, we see the woman climbing the famous monument to fill her water bottle.

An incivility that did not fail to make people talk on the web. “Sacrilege…”, “How can you have the idea of doing that”, “How do you make these people understand that it’s not a fountain like the others? It is a work of art, woe to him who walks on it”, can we read on the social network.

At the end of the sequence, however, we note that the woman in question was arrested by the security service. We do not know the outcome, but by doing so, she is liable to a fine of up to 500 euros.

As a reminder, the Trevi fountain was built between 1732 and 1762 and it is the largest in Rome. It has become a symbol around the world and a ritual of passage in Rome. Legend has it that by throwing a coin into the water with your back to the fountain, you are guaranteed to return to the Eternal City.

A resurgence of harmful actions

Since the end of the health crisis, the number of foreign travelers has doubled in Italy. Added to this is a rise in harmful acts on the part of foreign visitors, which have prompted the authorities to set up security patrols in the country’s tourist sites.

Last month, an English tourist had fun writing his name on the Colosseum, apologizing for not knowing the monument. More recently, at the beginning of August, two tourists from Lyon performed acrobatics in Milan on the famous Duomo cathedral.
