Tourist Coach Fire on A2 Motorway: 48 Passengers Safe – Repair Work Required

2023-12-31 10:39:00

A tourist coach linking Paris to Charleroi was consumed by an intense fire during the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 11:15 p.m., while it was traveling on the A2 motorway near Quarouble, in Hauts-de-France, in a few kilometers from Hensies (Hainaut), not far from the border. The coach was carrying 48 passengers, mainly of Belgian nationality.

According to information from our colleagues at The voice of the North, the fire would have started at the engine or rear axle of the bus. The driver immediately parked the vehicle on the hard shoulder and managed to evacuate the 48 passengers, almost all of whom were Belgian nationals. Fortunately, no one was injured or poisoned. When help arrived, the coach was already completely destroyed, as specified by the regional information site.

The passengers were able to resume their journey to Belgium aboard another vehicle around half past midnight. Always according to La Voix du Nord, it is very likely that the highway will have to be temporarily limited to one lane on the section where the surface was most seriously damaged by the fire. It is possible that repair work will be necessary to restore the roadway following this incident.
