The cable car is now part of the aerial landscape of Agadir. This first facility of its kind in Morocco was inaugurated Friday, July 15 in the evening by the President of the Council of the city of Agadir, Aziz Akhannouch. It was in the presence of the Ministers of Tourism and Culture as well as local authorities and the promoter of the project.
After a year of work and an investment of 140 million dirhams, this Danialand group project, which withstood the fallout from the health crisis, is now operational. At the price of a return ticket of 80 DH, it will allow users and visitors, on a journey of approximately six minutes totaling 1,700 meters, to have a panoramic view of the city. And this, by going to the emblematic and historic site of the Kasbah Oufella, partially open now after several months of development work.
To achieve this large-scale equipment, the Danialand company called on approved specialists and leading multinationals in the field of cable car construction. This is the Swiss-Austrian group Garaventa Doppelmayr, which has highly developed cable transport technology, with the latest generation equipment: D-Line. The Agadir cable car is also distinguished by its ecological aspect. A field of solar panels at the level of the car park located at the departure station has been installed. Modeled according to the energy consumption of the cable car, the solar panels should provide sufficient energy for the daily operation of the cable car.
In Agadir, this completed project will undeniably be of great added value for the tourist destination. According to promoter Abdelaziz Houays, the cable car should attract between 800,000 to 1 million visitors during the first year of its commissioning. A second line is also on the program. Its commissioning is announced for 2024. It is part of the second phase of this project, which provides for an amusement park and the largest water park in Africa. Great prospects for the seaside destination which should thus boost its tourist activity.
