vida-Tusch: “If the supply on the labor market is not right, there is also no demand – labor potential in Germany is not exhausted.”
Vienna (OTS) – “The constant squinting at cheap workers from abroad, who can be blackmailed and are therefore willing to do anything for little money, does not improve the working conditions in tourism in this country. It would be high time to finally improve the framework conditions. Then the companies will also find employees in Austria once more,” comments Berend Tusch, chairman of the tourism department of the vida trade union, on the statements made by State Secretary for Tourism Susanne Kraus-Winkler and ÖHV President Walter Veit in press releases on Monday morning. Tusch emphasizes that the increase in the seasonal quota and the easing of the red-white-red card by the federal government in recent months have not had the desired effect and calls for a rethinking in the entire industry.
Although the vida union shares Kraus-Winkler’s and Veit’s analysis of the need for manpower, the solution lies in improving working conditions, emphasizes unionist Tusch. Suggestions for improvement such as age-adjusted working time models, including a wide range of childcare options, have been on the table for years. The labor market in tourism is also a market with supply and demand. “If the supply is not right, there is no demand. Nowadays it is no longer enough to see employees only in the immediate work context. Employers who have recognized what their employees need have no problems finding employees. What is essential here is the creation of perspectives for people. Ideally, future employees will not settle far away from their place of work,” says Tusch and concludes: “The time for announcements and lip service from employers is over. The industry must finally implement the concepts and proposals.”
