According to forecasts by Jean-Sébastien Boudreault, President and CEO of the Hotel Association of Greater Montreal, tourist influx in the city’s hotels for the summer of 2022 should reach 85% of the influx recorded in 2019.
However, with the chaotic situation that persists at Montreal’s Pierre-Elliot-Trudeau International Airport, Mr. Boudreault reiterates that the presence of tourists is essential.
“We need these people to be able to come. We need to get up. We’ve been in debt for two years, our people haven’t worked. Imagine if the hotels come back empty, we will be forced to put people back on unemployment and we don’t want to come to that, ”he underlines.
For his part, the co-founder and CEO of volenretard.ca, Jacob Charbonneau, affirms that the airlines must reduce their flight offer in order to give respite to airports which are literally overwhelmed with travelers.
“Currently, it can be very complicated to travel and it is like that in Montreal, in Toronto, in Vancouver and in Europe. Airports are asking carriers to reduce capacity because they are unable to supply. We are really in a global situation that might last all summer,” said Mr. Charbonneau.
Travelers who wish to fly this summer must therefore expect to experience several hazards, both for departure and for return.
