Tourism in Mexico, with good dividends: record income predicted

MEXICO CITY (EFE).— Josefina Rodriguezthe next Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, revealed that the transition in this federal agency, which this year expects a Record revenue from international visitors of almost $33.5 billion.

After participating as a guest in the latest report of the current Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marquishis successor assured that he will continue the tourism policy of the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, while the outgoing official acknowledged that he leaves pending matters for the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum.

“Today the transition tables were officially held, we will do it as the same team that we are, with this continuity and, above all, without forgetting the objective which is the population, the Mexicans and continuing to promote our wealth,” said Rodriguez.

Torruco Marqués, who concludes his term at the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) at the end of September, acknowledged that “there is still much to do”, although he said he was certain that the new Administration, which begins its functions on October 1, will give “continuity with change”.

“We are certain that the new administration, led by the first female president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumand in Tourism, by Josefina Rodríguez, there will be continuity with change, to continue with the consolidation as a tourist power,” he said.

In addition, Torruco, who will hand over the baton of the country’s tourism policy to Rodríguez in 35 days, predicted that Mexico will continue on the path of growth and prosperity for the benefit of the population.

I trust that the Government leaves a legacy so that future generations will receive a country that is “just, dignified, independent and respected in the concert of nations.”

The next head of the Sectur said she was not in office yet, so she asked to wait for her to present, although without giving a date, the ““guiding objectives” of tourism policy for the period 2024-2030.

“In the next few days we will give you our guiding objectives, but I can certainly tell you that it will be a very fruitful path for tourism,” he stressed.

The next head of the Sectur shared that in this transition process she is dedicated to listening to detect areas of opportunity, as well as continuing with the Previous works in collaboration with Secretaries of Tourism of the country’s states, business chambers and private initiative.

In addition, in his last report, as a farewell, Torruco estimated that the income from foreign currency from international visitors increase by 9% year-on-year by the end of 2024 to record a new historical maximum.

“At the end of 2023, the income from international visitors was $30.81 billionthat is, 25.4% more than in 2019. According to the results and trends in the first half of the year, we hope to close this 2024 with $33.45 billiona historic figure for tourism in Mexico,” he said.

He also said that Mexico is positioned as the sixth country in the world in arrival of internment tourists, fifteenth in raising foreign currency and the twenty-ninth in per capita expenditure.

He also celebrated the results achieved, after admitting “extremely difficult moments” during global conflicts and the Covid-19 health emergency which paralyzed the world and, in particular, the national and global tourism sector.

“At the beginning of the current administration, we experienced extremely difficult times, caused by a large-scale pandemicwhich shook the entire world,” he recalled.
