The tourism sector in Switzerland recorded an increase in overnight stays of 3% compared to the Christmas/New Year holidays of last year. This is revealed by an indicative survey by Switzerland Tourism, which drew up an initial assessment of the end-of-year celebrations on Tuesday. Reservations for accommodation and tourist offers have sometimes even reached the limit of capacity, especially in mountain regions, rejoices the Swiss Tourist Office.
The tourist destinations, on the whole, experienced excellent attendance between Christmas and New Year. The increase everywhere was linked to the return of foreign guests. In fact, 87% of professionals surveyed reported a number of foreign visitors equal to or greater than last year. Reservations from the Swiss, meanwhile, were above average across the country during the holidays.
Worthwhile day trips
Much more mixed results on the other hand for day trips, in particular due to bad weather conditions and excessively mild temperatures. Professionals estimate that they have decreased by 3% compared to last year’s holidays (-8% in mountain regions).
But overall, Switzerland Tourism is satisfied. Although many guests have shown some signs of concern due to possible electricity shortages, high inflation, sudden warming temperatures, the desire to stay with us is there, he underlines .
