Tourism: 8 million 600 thousand tourists visited Tunisia

Tunisia welcomed 8 million 600 thousand tourists until the end of October 2024, noted Sofiene Tekaya, Minister of Tourism and Crafts, during her intervention at the Assembly of People’s Representatives as part of the examination of the project of the Tourism and Crafts mission.

Tourism revenues from the sector amounted to 6.2 billion dinars until the end of October 2024, an increase of 6% compared to last year. The number of tourists who visited Tunisia also recorded an increase of 8.6%, added the minister.

As for the number of overnight stays, it amounted to 24.4 million for this season, which represents an increase of 5% compared to last year.

Investments made and currently being developed amount to 146 million dinars and 169 million dinars respectively, while the overall amount of investment intentions is estimated at 789 million dinars.

Several challenges await the Ministry of Tourism, underlined the Minister of Tourism, namely the digitalization of the sector, the improvement of the training system, the conquest of new markets like Bahrain, Iraq, Russia and China and the unblocking of projects in suspense.

The minister stressed that the tourism sector, which provides 400,000 jobs, or 12% of the workforce in Tunisia, contributes 9% to the national GDP.
