Tour of Catalonia – Evenepoel: “I am not angry with Roglic”

As from the beginning of Tour of Catalonia, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) raced this Saturday, on occasion the sixth stage disputed between Martorell and Molins de Rei (174.1 kilometers). But the world champion did not manage to make the difference on his rival and leader of the general classification, Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma). The Slovenian even refused to collaborate when the two men were in the lead ten kilometers from the finish. “We had planned to attack on the climb. So I decided to wait for the last kilometer and to attack as I had done in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, attacking at the summit and making the descent. Unfortunately there was the ‘wrong person’ with me“, he said at the end of the stage.

Remco Evenepoel: “That was the plan today…”

Remco Evenepoel: “I understand this decision very well but…”

Maybe if he had collaborated with me we might have played for the stage victory, but I think his team told him not to collaborate and to preserve his lead in the general classificationcontinues the resident of Soudal-Quick Step. I understand this very well decision, but it’s a shame because it would have been nice to try to win the stage. I also told him that I wanted to test myself and that I would have been happy to finish 2nd too, but obviously, if you have orders from your formation, you must follow them. I’m not angry with him, cycling is that too.“Before the final stage, this Sunday, the world champion Remco Evenepoel is ten seconds behind Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo-Visma).
