Tour of Britain: Remco Evenepoel ‘not great, but in acceptable shape’ for his return to the roads

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) was back on the road, a month after his victory at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The double gold medallist animated the first stage of the Tour of Britain with an attack in the finale, judging his level of form “not great, but acceptable“, after the fact.

Evenepoel fell ill during the break after the Games and trained at a lower intensity afterwards. He felt it during today’s stage.I wasn’t great, but it was acceptable. I have nothing to complain about, but I’ve been better. I quickly gave up when they went all out. But it’s a good starting point to start the work.

Remco Evenepoel was able to celebrate his French teammate’s victory Paul Magnierwhich he helped to impose in the sprint. He was very good and managed to hang on in the climbs” said the double Olympic champion. It was clear that we had to work for him. And it will be the same in the coming days.

The Tour of Britain is a preparation for the world championships for Evenepoel. The British race will run for six days, ending on Sunday, while the Zurich World Championships are scheduled for September 22-29.
