Punctures in the final stretch of the second stage of the Tour de France were frequent and were due to studs that appeared on the tires of the bicycles, according to some directors and cyclists.

It was following the disputed day Vitoria-Gasteiz and San Sébastián that was disputed over 208.9 kilometers that the complaints arrived.

Several directors pointed out that many of their runners had suffered flat tires for the same reason.

Tacks in the Tour de France

“They have put thumbtacks on us. Almost all of our riders have had a flat, all but Victor Lafay and one other. I think they have gone too far, there were plenty of thumbtacks”, indicated the sports director of Cofidis, Bingen Fernández.

Also, the corridor Lilian Calmejane (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty), complained on their networks regarding what happened.

“Thank you for this kind of human bullshit… I don’t think I was the only victim of a puncture in the final… Know that with your bullshit you can fall and hurt yourself a lot…”, he shared on his Twitter account.

This situation has generated the rejection of the Basque fans who vibrated in the first days of the race and who stated that these acts do not represent the majority.
