Albertville has been transformed by the Games. They even seem to have saved Savoie 15 years. The department is now considered one of the world’s leading ski destinations. The example of the Olympic Games in Albertville is so good that Paris 2024 technicians regularly come to the site to draw inspiration from it.
A little over thirty years ago, Albertville hosted the Winter Games with 64 nations present and 1,801 athletes. Of the 57 events, 18 took place in Albertville. Thanks to this planetary event, Albertville has acquired numerous infrastructures that allow it to host major sporting and cultural events. Labeled Land of Games, Albertville is recognized as a “Games preparation center” thanks to a training strategy focused on altitude and in the valley. The recent campus of mountain professions, welcoming professional training organizations, participates in this dynamic which shows that the Games are still very much alive in Albertville. The town has become a regular stop on the Grande Boucle, which has stopped there five times over the past ten years.
A dynamism that makes school
Albertville is located at the crossroads of the valleys and on one of the largest ski areas in the world (Pays du Mont-Blanc and Tarentaise). Close to Annecy, Chambéry, Grenoble and Lyon and at the center of some of the richest nature reserves in Europe (Vanoise and Grand Paradis national parks, Massif des Bauges regional natural park), it carries out sustained action in favor of sporting activities, top-level athletes, which gives it a dynamic image where companies specializing in mountain sports can naturally establish themselves.
Albertville inspires since the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regions are applying for a French candidacy for the organization of the 2030 Winter Olympics.
