Among others, defending champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) was held up by the fall.
Van Aert narrowly missed out on winning the stage as second, but thanks to the bonuses he got the yellow jersey of the overall leader.
He also took over the green jersey for the points with the best points – albeit only one point ahead of Jakobsen.

For the Dutchman, victory in Nyborg in the first mass sprint of his tour debut was the fulfillment of a dream he had been dreaming of for 15 years – and the final happy ending of the story about his life-threatening fall on the Tour of Poland two years ago.

“Today is incredible. It was a long process for me to get here, step by step. A lot of people helped me to do that, and this victory is for them too. I’m still happy to be on the bike and I can still do it win,” said the 25-year-old sprinter in the finish interview.
After a largely uneventful stage, there were several falls in the finale, from which Jakobsen was spared.

“The team always kept me well in front from the bridge. On the home straight, Morkov put me right on Van Aert’s rear wheel and in the last few 100 meters I had slight contact with Peter Sagan, but luckily we both stayed up ‘ he commented on several shoulder checks from the Slovak, who finished sixth.
