Toulouse won the Coupe de France for the second time in its history, 66 years following its last coronation. In the final at the Stade de France, the “Téfécé” – with Vincent Sierro from the 69th – largely beat Nantes 5-1.
The defending champion completely cracked from the first minutes of this one-sided final. Doubles from Costa (4th / 10th) and Dallinga (23rd / 31st) placed Toulouse on the royal road. The Canaries saved the honor by Blas on penalty (75th) before Aboukhlal sealed the score (79th). The Pink City club had already won the Cup in 1957 in their only previous appearance in the final.
For Vincent Sierro, this is the 1st of the 2 lines which might be added to his record this weekend. Transferred from YB in January following playing an important role for the Bernese this fall, the 27-year-old Valaisan should also be crowned Swiss champion on Sunday.
Toulouse deprived of the Europa League?
This victory is supposed to qualify Toulouse for the Europa League, but this ticket is not guaranteed because it shares the same owners, the American investment fund Redbird Capital Partners, as AC Milan, which the regulations of UEFA banned.
