He wanted to get things straight. In the Grandes Gueules du Sport this Saturday on RMC, the general director of Téfécé, Olivier Jaubert, reacted to the start of the controversy over the sale of the jerseys worn and signed by the Toulouse players during the exploit once morest Liverpool on Thursday (3 -2) in the Europa League.

On the MatchWornShirt site, a platform specializing in the sale of match jerseys worn and signed by teams from all over the world, it is possible to obtain the jerseys of Thijs Dallinga, Aron Dönnum or even Guillaume Restes by participating in an auction . It is specified that the funds raised will be used for “various projects for the development and growth of the club”.

“It’s a sponsorship contract like any other”

On RMC, Olivier Jaubert gave the reasons for this initiative: “It’s very simple, if you go to the MatchWornShirt website, a company with which we have a contract, there are currently 100 sales in progress. There are all the Premier League, Liga, Ligue 1 clubs who have a contract with this company. And as part of the contract we have with them, we owe them a certain number of jerseys which they put up for auction. This is not not to finance our own projects, it’s just like a licensing contract.”

“The most important thing for us is that our players can give their jerseys to the supporters when they play at the Stadium or away, and that’s what we do. Afterwards, we take a certain number of jerseys which we get them to sign, effectively, and put it up for sale as part of the contract with MatchWornShirt. The players have two sets of jerseys during the match. We take the ‘second’ jersey from a certain number of players. And we don’t do that every match…”, explained Olivier Jaubert.

But then what is the money obtained from the auction actually used for? “We don’t do anything with this money, it’s a sponsorship contract like any other. We have a guaranteed minimum, not very high, and if we exceed this guaranteed minimum, we will receive royalties, which come within the general income of the club. (…) With this income we try to build the best possible team, and to give it the best possible support on the pitch.”

Could the funds be donated on certain occasions to associations? “We have a foundation on one side, and an endowment fund on the other. (…) We have CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) actions. (…) Will we continue this contract in beyond three years? We’ll see, that’s another debate. I think it allows people who don’t have the opportunity to come to the stadium to possibly buy a jersey. There are a lot of collectors who are looking for worn jerseys. (…) I am willing to receive moral lessons, but we try to cope with everything we have to pay for in the operation of a club,” replied Olivier Jaubert.
