Toulouse: call for mobilization of retired doctors to ensure summer replacements

the essential
While several surgeries are emptying and general practitioners are going on vacation, the ARS is looking for replacements. Can the solution come from retirees? The Regional Health Agency calls for mobilization.

Looking for doctors. Summer is coming and so are the holidays. Like all professions, doctors will take their vacations. The problem remains that several firms have still not found replacements for the summer season. “We have more than 6,000 doctors in Occitania. When investigated, some confessed that they had trouble finding replacements. A call is then made for the mobilization of retired doctors. We want to continue this solidarity commitment which worked during the Covid-19 crisis”, admits Céline Saintin, head of the primary health center at the Regional Health Agency.

A call for solidarity

The ARS Occitanie is setting up, in conjunction with the URPS doctors, the Order of doctors and the federation of support systems (FACS Occitanie), a new recruitment of voluntary retired doctors. Preserving the supply and quality of care is essential. Attending physicians are a real alternative and help relieve emergencies that are also saturated during the summer period.

“We have problems of medical demography. We are not in a desert, but the summer period is very tense. Especially in August. Doctors also need to take vacations,” continues Céline Saintin. The ARS then calls for the solidarity of retired doctors. To be able to exercise, the substitute retirees will benefit from a salaried contract in cumulation employment retirement.
