He Tottenham announced on Tuesday the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as coach for four seasons, ending the long search process to occupy the bench.
The 57-year-old Greek-Australian led the Celtic to the domestic treble in Scotland this season (Cup, championship, League Cup) and replaces Antonio Conte in the club Premier League.
The Italian left the club by “mutual agreement” at the end of March, with Cristian Stellini first and Ryan Mason later temporarily assuming the post.
Postecoglou will officially join the ‘Spurs’ on July 1, who finished eighth in Premier League.
“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” he declared. Daniel Levypresident of the Tottenhamquoted in a statement from the London club.
“He has a strong track record of player development and an understanding of the importance of the academy link, all of which are important for our club,” he added. “We can’t wait to have Ange join us as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
In his search for a coach, the Tottenham tried to hire the Dutch manager from Feyenoord Arne Slot and the former German coach of Bayern Munich Julian Nagelsmanunsuccessful attempts that led the London club to set its sights on Postecoglou.
The latter has gained popularity among fans of the Celtic not only because of the titles they have won, five in just two seasons, but also because of their attacking style of football.
“It was an honor to be asked to be Celtic’s manager and during these two years I have given everything I had to bring success to our fans,” Postecoglou said in a statement posted on the Celtic website on Tuesday.
But in London he will face a greater challenge, that of returning Spurs to the ‘Top 4’ in which they were in March, before Conte’s departure, which finally left them without any European competition for the first time since 2009.
