MERCE team leader Toto Wolff said he was pleased with the significant improvements his team has made in the middle of the season, following wins for George Russell at the Austrian GP and Lewis Hamilton at the British GP.
Quoted from the official Formula 1 website, Thursday (18/7), Wolff assessed that this achievement was the result of a series of updates and refreshments that the team had attempted in the first half of the season, especially since the Monaco GP and onwards.
This is also ‘revenge’ following a series of mistakes in the 2022 and 2023 seasons which were full of challenges due to not being able to find a way to adapt to Formula 1’s ground effect regulations.
“We found the performance, we implemented it in the car, and it translated into lap times. That was not the case in the last two years,” said Wolff.
However, Wolff warned Mercedes to ‘not get carried away’ with their recent form, despite the team being seen as having returned to its best form in the last few rounds of the season.
“However, what we have tried so far is the right thing,” he said.

Furthermore, Wolff also highlighted the role of Technical Director James Allison who provided a lot of input regarding what technical updates might make their racing car even more competitive.
“James made the data make more sense, especially regarding the gap and how we can balance the car and get it into a better condition,” said Wolff.
“I think that’s the main thing. It’s not a miracle, but more of a balance that we achieved,” he added.
The next round of Formula 1 this season will roll at the Hungaroring Circuit, Budapest, Hungary, on July 19-21. (Ant/Z-1)
