TotalEnergies Protests: CEO’s Controversial Statements and Profits Spark Outrage

Several posters were affixed to gas pumps overnight from Friday to Saturday. In particular, we can see the CEO of TotalEnergies, renamed for the occasion “Fatal Energies”, wearing an Old Regime wig, pronounce these words: “They have no more water? Let them drink oil.” A reminder of the quote attributed to Marie-Antoinette on bread and brioche.

A second poster recalls, for its part, the 36 billion profits made by the oil company in 2022, accompanied by the following comment: “Ours, the money. Yours, the suffering.”

This action is undoubtedly a reaction, regarding Patrick Pouyanné, this week, during a round table organized by the Medef, on climate change, facing the paleoclimatologist, Jean Jouzel. “I hear Jean’s calls and I respect the opinion of scientists, but the problem is that there is real life”, explained the CEO of the multinational, faced with the calls of the scientist to get out of the hydrocarbons.

Threatened with dissolution following the events of Sainte-Soline, the Uprisings of the Earth are emulated in Limousin

In Limoges, four Total Energies stations were targeted, avenue Général Leclerc, route de Toulouse, boulevard Bel Air and route d’Aixe-sur-Vienne. The Limougeaud Committee for Earth Uprisings was created last April, following threats to dissolve the association following the events in Sainte-Soline.

If its dissolution was pronounced by the government, it has since been suspended by the Council of State, in an interim judgment, before the administrative court rules on the merits, in the coming months.
