Since September 1, the discount on the price of fuel set up by the government is no longer 18 but 30 cents. The Total group has decided to apply an additional reduction of 20 cents. Motorists rushed to service stations, to the point that some are already dry.
“I will earn 15 euros on my full tank of gas” says Caroline at the Total service station at the entrance to Dieppe. This mother who fills up 3 times a month will save 45 euros a month: “It’s still a lot of shopping. I have 5 mouths to feed at home so we’re careful and this little saving is important right now“.
Like many, she came to this station especially to buy her fuel. Here, we find the lowest prices in town: the liter of SP95 is displayed at €1.37, that of diesel at €1.58. In all its stations, the Total group has decided to apply a reduction in addition to that of the government.
Since September 1, the discount applied by the state has increased from 18 to 30 cents on a liter of gasoline. TotalEnergies lowers the tariff by an additional 20 cents. The savings made by motorists therefore reach 50 cents per liternot negligible.
Very quickly, service stations were taken by storm and the wait might be long to fill the tank of your vehicle. “I was lucky to get a place quickly, but I already waited more than 15 minutes”says a motorist.
Another consequence of this reduction: the shortage. Only a few days following the application of this discount, some gas stations were already out of stock.
A few kilometers further, no queues at the gas station of a supermarket.
The prices displayed are more expensive than at the Total gas station and the management has no way of competing with the oil giant: “gasoline is a very low-margin product”explains Philippe André, supermarket manager.
He pursues “We don’t have the capacity to match these prices. As we are not refiners, we can’t have our hands on the price reduction and make such a low price”.
Motorists can be reassured, for the moment no shortage of fuel is to be expected.
