The anchor of TVA 18h, Sophie Thibault, was still on cloud nine the day following the total solar eclipse which was seen by hundreds of thousands of Quebecers.

In a post on Facebook late Monday evening, the journalist revealed that the bulletin she hosted following the celestial event that she was able to photograph from the roof of the TVA offices was one of her most memorable to date
“I have never, in my long career as a news anchor (34 years) navigated through a bulletin with 96% smiles! Tell you how much it puts a balm on the soul, she writes. I saw your eyes, your tears, your cries of joy and astonishment. The beauty of the world.”
In an interview on the show “Le Québec Matin” on Tuesday, the one who is passionate regarding photography revealed that less than a month ago, she was not planning to capture this event which only happens once in a year. life.
«Julie [Marcoux] hooked me up in the newsroom maybe three weeks ago and she asked me what I was doing during the eclipse. I told him that I wasn’t doing anything, because like everyone else I was afraid,” she says.
“I was afraid of burning my sensor, of melting my diaphragm, and my eyes too I wasn’t sure,” she adds. There she seemed to light a little flame inside [de moi] and I’ve been reading and swallowing the tutorials for three weeks [pour y arriver].»
The anchor then embarked on a race once morest time to find a filter to photograph the eclipse.
“While watching a tutorial, I ended up finding a store in Toronto that might send them out pretty quickly. I received it last Friday just in time to do some tests on the sun to get an idea of the ideal exposure.”
The result: a unique day during which she juggled between her passion for photography and her job as a news anchor.
“We all vibrated in the light yesterday,” she said. We reconnected with the cosmos, but in broad daylight, for once in our lives.”
