The 2022/23 season in the National Basketball Association (NBA) came to an abrupt end for the Toronto Raptors with Jakob Pöltl from Vienna.

The Canadians lost 105-109 to the Chicago Bulls in the first round of play-ins on Wednesday (local time) following giving up a 19-point lead. The home NBA pioneer recorded seven points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. He came to 36:36 minutes.

Pöltl: “Of course it hurts”

Pöltl was also disappointed following the end, “because I had the feeling that we had the potential not only to win this game, but to start a bit of a run. Of course it hurts when you fail at the first hurdle,” said the 27-year-old from Vienna at the end of his seventh NBA season.

He also suffered a loss in his third play-in game following 2021 and 2022 (both with the San Antonio Spurs, ed.).

Toronto went into the duel with the Bulls as a favorite not only because of the two home wins. The Canadians seemed to live up to this role, as they were 66:47 ahead three minutes following the break.

At the beginning of the final quarter they pulled away once more to twelve points, but Chicago had long since smelled a rat. In the last three minutes, the guests ensured victory and promotion to the second play-in round.
