The Toronto Maple Leafs and forward William Nylander are reportedly on the verge of agreeing on an 8-year contract extension worth US$92 million, TSN reported Monday.

It would be the most lucrative contract in the history of the organization. It would bring Nylander $11.5 million annually.

Nine players will earn more than $11 million per year next season, including Maple Leafs forwards Auston Matthews and John Tavares. Mitchell Marner pockets a little more than $10.9 million.

Only the Florida Panthers also have more than one player – Sergei Bobrovsky and Aleksandr Barkov – who exceed $11 million annually.

Nylander might have become an unrestricted free agent this summer. In 37 games so far since the start of the season, he has scored 21 goals and collected 33 assists.

In his career, the 27-year-old athlete has totaled 198 goals and 286 assists in 558 games.
