Thunderstorms reach NRW at noon – schools close, airport remains open

From Friday followingnoon there is a threat of further storms in Bonn and the region. The DWD warns of heavy thunderstorms, heavy rain and squalls. Schools in Cologne, Bonn and in the Rhein-Sieg district and in the Ahrweiler district have to close. We will keep you informed of all developments.

A storm front swept over Germany on Thursday and also caused individual fire brigade operations in Bonn and the region. In the course of the evening the weather situation calmed down once more. On Friday, however, new storms threaten. Even tornadoes are possible, according to the German Weather Service. Schools in Bonn and the region have to close. Widespread severe, sometimes extreme thunderstorms as well as storm and hurricane gusts, heavy rain with 40 liters per square meter in one hour and hail with a particle size of five centimeters are expected.
