On May 17, 2023 (local time), Topazlabs released Topaz Video AI v3.2.6, the latest software update to improve the quality of its videos.
What’s new highlights
Recent updates introduce the ability to seek and crop by frame, faster frame interpolation, access to older legacy AI models, and various fixes and updates.
Seek or trim by frame
You can now display the playhead position in frames by selecting an option in Preferences → General → Timecode Display Format::
Enabling this option allows you to specify the preview time by frame number instead of timecode. This gives you a more consistent seeking experience across both frames and timecodes.
Significantly faster Apollo model
The Frame Interpolation filter now has a new “Apollo Fast” model to choose from. Normal Apollo is also faster, but Apollo Fast is regarding 300-400% faster when generating double or quadruple frames.
Here are some things to consider when choosing a frame interpolation model:
- If you need 2x, 4x, 8x frame rate multiplication, use Apollo. For example, converting 30→60fps to 200% slow motion requires exactly 4 times as many frames.
- If speed is important and you want 2x or 4x frames, go with Apollo Fast
- If you want the highest quality or need 8x faster frames, use Apollo.
- Use Chronos (Fast) for other frame multiples, such as converting from 24 → 60 FPS.
Enabling Legacy AI Models
If you want to use AI models from previous versions of your app, you can now enable this option in Preferences → Application. This allows you to select older versions of most AI models in each filter.
Newer models generally perform better on most videos, but due to the nature of model development, we cannot guarantee that they will perform better on all videos. This new feature makes older versions useful if you know the performance is right for your footage.
Note: Legacy models are not supported and will not be optimized or fixed for future compatibility issues.
Other improvements
- Added a preference option to automatically delete old previews.
- Added a warning for setting more than the maximum number of processes setting.
- Added overwrite warning for image sequence export and fixed export location.
- Fixed an issue where temporary files remain when exporting.
- Double-clicking the title bar on Mac now maximizes correctly.
- Removed duration indicator in timeline preview.
- Many interface, stability and quality of life improvements.

Future updates
Over the next few months, we will be making updates to improve the visual quality of the models and usability of the app.
- New enhancement and upscaling model for better face reconstruction (beta)
- Added scene change detection to improve stabilization and frame interpolation quality for videos with multiple scenes.
- Added option to pause and resume export.
- Faster playback and seeking in in-app preview。
- A second enhancement pass can now be applied without exporting and re-importing.
- Improved Themis (Motion Deblur) quality for object motion.
- Improved output settings interface and audio transcoding options, including bitrate control.
- Improved video output list interface for comparing multiple previews and parameters.
