Where do tourists plan to travel in 2024? Airbnb has the answer. The short-term rental platform unveiled at the beginning of January 2024 the ranking of the destinations most sought following by its users around the world for the year which has just started. Indianapolis and Japan in the lead
Globally, Indianapolis, in the United States, tops searches for 2024. The capital of the American state of Indiana is hosting several large-scale events this year, starting with three Taylor concerts Swift next November. More than 200,000 people are expected for the occasion. Hundreds of thousands of others are also expected to travel to the Indianapolis 500 (or Indy 500), one of the most famous auto races in the world, notes Capital.
Behind Indianapolis, the world podium is completed by Warsaw (Poland) and Osaka (Japan). The Japanese archipelago is doing rather well with a second city in the top 5, Kyoto in fourth position. Despite the 2024 Olympics, Paris only comes eighth behind all these cities and Buenos Aires (Argentina), Marrakech (Morocco) and Salvador (Brazil).

Popular Olympic cities
It is in the Airbnb ranking for France that the effect of the Olympic Games is most felt. The rental platform first specifies that searches for Paris have increased sevenfold for the period from July 26 to August 11, 2024, compared to last year. The capital, however, only comes fourth in the list of the most sought-following French cities, perhaps less prominent than other cities in Ile-de-France due to the surge in prices for overnight stays during the Olympics period. 2024.
The podium is in fact made up of three other cities which will host Olympic events. First we find Versailles (Yvelines), which will host the horse riding events in the castle gardens, then Boulogne-Billancourt (Hauts-de-Seine) and finally Lille (North), which will host part of the basketball tournament. Paris, fourth, is followed by Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine), where the swimming events will take place. Finally Bayeux (Calvados) comes fifth, surely boosted by the 80th anniversary of the Landing.
