Top Spectacular Destinations for 2023: A Complete Guide to the Best Travel Experiences

As every year, The New York Times newspaper has drawn up an extensive list of spectacular destinations that it recommends traveling to in 2023 because they are spectacular. In the list, which collects up to 52 proposals, you can do cultural tourism, nature tourism, or simply enjoy its history and fun, or a combination of these characteristics. In any case, they will surprise the tourist with their beauty and uniqueness.

But, since 52 destinations are many, we have focused on the Top Ten for detail its characteristics and main incentives for the trip. It’s a pity that no Spanish can be found until 31st place, Tarragona, and only a second reference appears in 44th place, Madrid.

London, United Kingdom: The British capital is a cosmopolitan, vibrant city full of contrasts. You can enjoy its historical heritage, such as the Palace of Westminster, Tower Bridge or Big Ben, or its world-famous museums, such as the British Museum, the National Gallery or the Tate Modern. You can also explore its most modern and alternative neighbourhoods, such as Camden, Shoreditch or Notting Hill, or relax in its many parks and gardens.

Morioka, Japan: This city located north of the island of Honshu is the capital of Iwate Prefecture. It is known for its rich culture and gastronomy, as well as its natural environment. You can visit Iwate Park, where the old Morioka Castle is located, or the Mitsuishi Temple, where three sacred rocks are venerated. You can also taste their typical dishes, such as jajamen, ramen or soba, or their traditional sweets, such as nambu senbei. If you like nature, you can admire the beauty of Mount Iwate, which dominates the city, or take excursions along the Kitakami and Nakatsu rivers. Morioka is a city that brings you closer to the essence of Japan.

Monument Valley, Arizona: This impressive natural park is located on the border between Arizona and Utah, in the territory of the Navajo Indians. It is famous for its reddish rock formations, which rise out of the desert like gigantic sculptures. Some of the best known are the Three Sisters, the Totem Pole or the Mittens. You can explore the park by car, horseback or on foot, and enjoy the panoramic views and spectacular sunsets. You can also learn regarding the culture and history of the Navajo, who live in harmony with this unique landscape.

Kilmartin Glen, Scotland: This valley located to the west of Scotland is one of the places with the highest concentration of prehistoric archaeological remains in Europe. In Kilmartin Glen you can find more than 350 megalithic monuments, such as stone circles, menhirs, burial chambers or petroglyphs. These testimonies of the ancient civilizations that inhabited the area will transport you to a mysterious and fascinating past. In addition, you can enjoy the green and rolling landscape of the valley, dotted with lakes and forests.

Auckland, New Zealand: New Zealand’s largest and most populous city is also one of the most diverse and dynamic in the world. It is located between two bays and is surrounded by extinct volcanoes, which gives it a maritime and mountainous character. You can visit its historical and cultural center, where the Sky Tower, the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere; the War Memorial Museum; or the Toi o Tamaki Art Gallery. Tromso, Norway: This city located north of the Arctic Circle is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights. In addition, it offers a wide variety of activities to enjoy the Nordic winter, such as dog or reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile excursions or cross-country skiing.
