Top Prospect Dalibor Dvorsky Set to Sign New Contract in Sweden’s Elite League: NHL Draft Updates

Forward Dalibor Dvorsky, considered a top prospect for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL) draft, is reportedly set to sign a new contract in Sweden’s Elite League.

This was reported by the Swedish daily “Expressen” on Monday.

The 18-year-old reportedly gets on with IK Oskarshamn. Dvorsky has played in Sweden for the past two campaigns, playing for Skelleftea AIK. In 38 games with this club in 2022-2023, he hit the target six times and provided eight assists for 14 points.

The Slovak, who plays at center, is a good friend of Montreal Canadiens player Juraj Slafkovsky. Several have raised the possibility that the CH will draft him with the fifth overall choice, but logic would dictate that Dvorsky would be selected later during the first round of the 2023 auction.

“I can’t predict where I will be fished out,” he told “Journal de Montréal” colleague Jean-François Chaumont at the beginning of June.

“But I expect to come out from around this rank (that of CH). I would like to become a top 10 pick. I would think that’s great. Above all, I want to find myself with a team that will believe in me. That is the most important.”

The possibility of Dvorsky initialing a deal in Sweden should not dampen a Bettman circuit team during the draft which will take place on June 28 and 29 in Nashville. Indeed, it is not uncommon for young European players to have an escape clause in their NHL contract. This allows them to return to the Old Continent if they do not break through the formation of the team that selected them.
