Sportswomen were dismissed by the Minister of the Interior from the BMI top sports squad – both will in future serve in the General Directorate for Public Safety.
Vienna (OTS) – “In the past ten years, Mirnesa and Mirneta Becirovic have made outstanding achievements for police sport in Austria,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner on the farewell to Mirnesa and Mirneta Bećirovic from the Interior Ministry’s top sports squad.
Karner emphasised: “Mirnesa and Mirneta Bećirović embody team spirit, ambition, commitment and discipline. Be it in everyday work in their regular offices, the Mödling and Wiener Neudorf police stations, within the General Directorate for Public Safety or in the numerous competitions from which they emerged victorious and made us proud of their achievements.”
“Police sport is an important pillar for top-class Austrian sport, as the recent successes of police athletes at the current World Ski Championships in France show,” added the Minister of the Interior.
Subtitle: Unbeatable duo
Mirnesa and Mirneta Bećirović have been members of the Interior Ministry’s elite sports squad since January 1, 2012. During their time as top athletes in the Jiu-Jitsu Duo discipline, they emerged victorious from numerous competitions. In 2021, the President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation gave them the Dedication Award for going unbeaten for ten years in a row. In addition to sporting achievements, the top athletes also celebrated professional successes in 2021. Mirnesa and Mirneta Bećirović took the first two places nationwide in the admissions process for training to be officers on duty.
