Top Nursing Degrees in High Demand in Spain: Infoempleo Adecco 2022 Report

This week marks the beginning of the second chance for many Spanish students who are facing the university entrance exams, and in the coming days they will know their grades in the well-known EBAU test. These exams give them the opportunity to decide which degree to study in the coming years, a choice that will be key to their future work.

Making this decision is not always easy, since there are many factors that can influence it, such as Vocation, professional opportunities and future prospects. Are the grades with the highest cut-off grade the ones that offer the greatest job opportunities? Have the most in-demand degrees changed a lot in recent years? Is the impact of the pandemic still being felt on the professionals with university degrees that are requested?

Having information regarding the employability of different degrees can be of great help when making this decision. For this reason, the job portal Infoempleo and LHH Recruitment Solutions, the consultant for the selection of qualified, executive and managerial talent of the Adecco Group, offer an analysis of the degrees with the best professional prospects, which is part of the Report Infoempleo Adecco 2022: Supply and demand for employment in Spain.

Degrees with the highest demand for employment

During the last year, university studies have experienced a significant recovery, increasing their presence in job offers by 0.89%, reaching 37.30% of the total. This makes them the most demanded training option by companies.

The demand for degrees has been affected by the health crisis, and for the second consecutive year, the health related careers are the most requested, representing the 40,28%. However, once the health crisis was over, its presence in employment requirements has decreased by 6.68% compared to 2021, being the largest drop by branch of knowledge.

· Nursing It occupies first place in the list of degrees most in demand in Spain, representing 10.78% of the total offers for university students. However, it has experienced a 1.64% reduction in its presence.

– Medicine and Biomedicine, which led the demand last year, are now in second place with 10.52% of the offer (-2.8 pp). Both decreases reflect the normalization of the care situation in health centers following the worst of the pandemic.

· The degrees of Education and Pedagogy have risen to third place (9.80% of offers). Over the last year, they have experienced the highest growth in the ranking, increasing by 7.85 percentage points and displacing Business Management, which continues to drop in the “top 5” of degrees most in demand, although it remains stable with a contribution of 5.26%. He double degree in Business Administration and Law closes the first positions with 4.92% (descending one place and almost 3 tenths).

The Community of Madrid, Andalusia, Catalonia and Castilla y León continue to be the regions with the highest percentage of job offers aimed at university graduates, together representing 56.53% of the total.

In the last three years, exceptional circumstances have made the health sector in the main applicant for candidates with higher education in our country, representing 31.68%. However, in the last year it has decreased by almost four points, which may indicate a possible change in trend following the pandemic. The Education sector remains in second place (17.68%) and has increased its participation by six and a half points during 2022, being the most significant increase.

The races of Health Sciences (40.28%) continue to lead the demand for the second consecutive year. But once the health crisis was over, its presence in the training requirements of job offers has slowed down, and decreases by 6.68 points percentages compared to 2021, the largest drop by branch of knowledge.

The races of Social and Legal Sciences (37.06%) they hold second place, and increase more than eight points their presence in the requirements of the offers with respect to 2021. While the degrees in the area of Engineering and Architecture, present in 20.62% of the offers remain at similar values.

For the first time since this study was carried out, the demand for graduates in the branch of Arts and Humanities (1.07%) exceeds that of graduates in careers in the branch of Sciences (0.98%), who have reduced their weight by 1.28 points and are in last place.
