A Renault Clio RS has just been sold at auction in the United Kingdom, and not just any car. This “phase 2” Clio III RS, sporting the Green Alien color introduced during the restyling, comes from the manufacturer’s press fleet, i.e. it was among the vehicles intended for testing by journalists in its time. This particular specimen has even become famous for this fact, sincethis is the one that was used in the show Top Gear the time of a race of sports cars on the circuit of Monaco in 2011, in the hands of James May.

The ideal setup?

Besides its recognizable color, the car is equipped with the Cup chassis, optional Recaro bucket seats but also an air conditioning system and a CD car radio, which was not always the norm for a car intended for 2010 “vintage” trackers like this one. Note that an identical copy was also tested on the circuit in Fifth Gear, the other major British car show, but the description published by Collecting Cars does not specify if it was the same car.

Once his “public” career was over, this Clio was kept in Renault’s Heritage collection across the Channel until February 2022. She had had only one private owner until she was recently put up for sale.

Coming from Renault’s press fleet, the car was notably tested in Monaco on the Top Gear show. Collecting Cars

The car’s history shows the replacement of the camshaft position sensor, a known defect on this model, but does not indicate any problems at the time of sale. The last technical inspection dates back to April 2023; a revision followed in May. The Renault changed hands with 33,755 miles on the clock, or around 54,000km, for £30,001. This equates to just over €35,000or nearly double the prices recorded in France for similar copies.
