When it comes to fantasy football, there’s a big difference between the best receivers in tight ends and those who do more block work. Because in contrast to the real NFL, only the players who provide touchdowns, catches and yards themselves are relevant in fantasy. Basically, only a handful of real starters are left for your team. sport.de tells you which players you should secure.
In order to always keep track of the Fantasy Draft, it is worth designing a ranking for each position. It is even better to then divide the players into respective tiers. So you always know how many comparable professionals are still on your board and how many have already been drafted.
For example, if all running backs and wide receivers in tiers 1 and 2 are off the board and you have a choice between Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and a last remaining tight end in the same tier, you should take the tight end and the quarterbacks a bit more put backwards.
One thing should be mentioned: All rankings, including those of the previous weeks, refer to a “PPR league”. There are also points per reception. A tight end who is the most important receiver in his team receives a corresponding bonus, which is also included in this ranking.
Tier 1: The elite tier
Mark Andrews / Baltimore Ravens
Travis Kelce / Kansas City Chiefs
Mark Andrews and Travis Kelce are a safe bet every year. While Kelce has a little more competition on his own team than last year, Andrews should be a beneficiary of the redesigned offense in Baltimore. Therefore, both are at the top of this ranking. It is up to you which tight end you prefer. As a fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, I might be a little self-conscious and put my college team’s former star in first place.
Tier 2: Elite challengers
T.J. Hockenson / Minnesota Vikings
George Kittle / San Francisco 49ers
Dallas Goedert/Philadelphia Eagles
Darren Waller / New York Giants
Kyle Pitts / Atlanta Falcons
George Kittle, TJ Hockenson, and Dallas Goedert are all tight ends who have elite tight end potential. Hockenson made phenomenal scores following his move to the Vikings. Kittle and Goedert, as long as they are fit, are always a bank.
Darren Waller’s move brings him back into an environment with less competition, which gave him a first-class finish in the tight end rankings during his prime with the Las Vegas Raiders. As for Kyle Pitts, I hope he uncorks his talent and scores big with quarterback Desmond Ridder.
Tier 3: Potential is there
Evan Engram / Jacksonville Jaguars
Pat Freiermuth/Pittsburgh Steelers
David Njoku / Cleveland Browns
Dalton Schultz / Houston Texans
Chigoziem Okonkwo Tennessee Titans
Tyler Higbee / Los Angeles Rams
The Jacksonville Jaguars are once once more providing a quick-witted offense, and Evan Engram was a key part of that last year, throwing quarterback Trevor Lawrence on nearly every fifth pass attempt. The only problem for him is that the arrival of Calvin Ridley threatens competition in his own house. That’s why Engram suddenly finds himself in Tier 3.
There David Njoku with the Browns and Tyler Higbee with the Rams find a similar situation, just being one of several good receivers. Pat Freiermuth and Dalton Schultz are very important to their team, but the offense will not be a special unit. Chigoziem Okonkwo is a special case as H-Back. His role may even grow with the Titans now that the coaches have learned how versatile he is.
Tier 4: Behind the best tight ends
Greg Dulcich / Denver Broncos
Cole Kmet / Chicago Bears
Gerald Everett / Los Angeles Chargers
Dalton Kincaid / Buffalo Bills
Irv Smith Jr. / Cincinnati Bengals
Juwan Johnson / New Orleans Saints
Hayden Hurst / Carolina Panthers
Sam LaPorta / Detroit Lions
Zach Ertz / Arizona Cardinals
Hunter Henry / New England Patriots
Dawson Knox / Buffalo Bills
There are some breakout candidates behind the best tight ends in fantasy football that can be drafted as backups. If the actual starter fails, you might be lucky enough to pull another ace up your sleeve. Or you have an exclusive trade candidate. Because if you have two strong tight ends, others don’t even have one on their team. There’s something you can do there.
Dalton Kincaid, for example, is making great strides at the Bills’ training camp. He currently shares the role with Dawson Knox, which hurts both for fantasy football. However, should Knox trade, the way is open for the best season by a rookie tight end in years.
Tier 5: Good luck with that
Michael Mayer / Las Vegas Raiders
Isaiah Likely / Baltimore Ravens
Taysom Hill / New Orleans Saints
Noah Fant / Seattle Seahawks
Jake Ferguson / Dallas Cowboys
Mike Gesicki / New England Patriots
Whether any of these five tight ends will be relevant to your fantasy football league remains to be seen. In addition to his work as a receiver, Michael Mayer is also used in blocking. Isaiah Likely would have to hope for an injury to Mark Andrews, but then, unlike other backups, has the potential to take a lead role. Hill, Gesicki and Fant are difficult to spot. However, even if they play a bigger role, they still play in an offense that has little power.
Tier 6: No relevant tight ends
Trey McBride / Arizona Cardinals
Jelani Woods / Indianapolis Colts
Tyler Conklin / New York Jets
Daniel Bellinger / New York Giants
Cade Otton / Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Logan Thomas / Washington Commanders
Foster Moreau / New Orleans Saints
Luke Musgrave / Green Bay Packers
There is really nothing more to say regarding the last players in this list. Luke Musgrave and Trey McBride are pretty good players. But neither the offense nor the environment fit. Just keep your hands off it.
But now we can finally start. Over the coming week, I’ll share some possible drafting strategies for your NFL Fantasy Football Draft. Then the season can start soon.
