Oberhausen. On the last holiday weekend (August 4th to 6th), friends going out in Oberhausen can once once more choose between family celebrations and party breaks.
Top 1: Clean! Open doors at the waste incineration
The Niederrhein communal waste incineration plant (GMVA) is normally taboo for visitors. On Sunday, August 6th, however, the factory premises on Buschhausener Strasse will once once more be transformed into the scene of a colorful family festival.
From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. there will be a program on the fairground. The organizers offer a number of guided tours through the facility. Children are entertained, live musicians play, fire artists create a spectacle and a vintage car show offers exciting views of rare and attractive vehicles. Admission free. www.gmva.de
Top 2: Bears start the big party in Alstaden
A long party is coming up in the south of Oberhausen: the Alstadener Bären carnival community is preparing its popular bear festival for Saturday, August 5th. From 2 p.m., the party is not only attended by revelers, but usually by many people from Alstaden who love to party.
A children’s program awaits in the early followingnoon. In the evening, pop and party musicians appear. As a starting Alex Reed, Norman Langen (“Pures Gold”) will heat up the atmosphere in the schoolyard of the former Alstaden secondary school on Bebelstrasse. Admission free. www.karneval-in-oberhausen.de
Top 3: Rare horror punk with Blitzkid in the compressed air
In fact, they were already history. Pure horror for the fans. But following breaking up in 2012, Blitzkid got back together in 2019. On Friday, August 4th, starting at 7 p.m., it will be downright historic in the Druckluft. It is the first European club concert by the horror punk band from Bluefield, West Virginia, in eleven years.
The band around the founding members TB Monstrosity and Argyle Goolsby maintains a genre that was formed in the 1970s from a number of electric guitar-heavy subgenres and whose lyrics clearly refer to horror. The best-known horror punk band is certainly Misfits, which of course has nothing to do with the well-known cabaret duo around Gerburg Jahnke, which is ultimately spelled Missfits.
Tickets for the Blitzkid open-air concert on the street at Förderturm 27 cost just under 39 euros. www.drucklufthaus.de
Top 4: Heaven and Hell at the Theater an der Niebuhrg
Holidays are heaven. Holidays with rain are more like hell. Maybe the weather gods will show some mercy from Friday, August 4th to Sunday, August 6th. Then there are more performances in the garden theater of the Niebuhrg. The summer open-air musical “Heaven and Hell” starts on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Niebuhrstrasse 61. And on Sunday two hours earlier.
Too bad for heaven, too good for hell – that was the life of the prostitute Jessica. On the celestial cloud, the question now is where to allow her admission. By the way: If it is too wet for the garden grandstand, the Niebuhrgers can always switch to the dry auditorium. Regular tickets for the amusing performance cost between 15 euros (children and young people) to 29 euros (adults). www.niebuhrg.de
Top 5: “Nobody is perfect” invites you back to Altenberg
We still have one more: With the disco followingnoon “Nobody is perfect”, a dance evening for people with and without disabilities starts on Sunday, August 6th. In addition, pop, hits and party sounds are also played in the Altenberg centre.
Admission costs an affordable 2 euros from 4 p.m. at the box office. Drinks are available from one euro. The integrative disco allows visitors to party until 8 p.m. www.zentrumaltenberg.de
