Back-to-school is just around the corner and many parents plan to spend moderately to get back to school, according to a recent survey.
Thus, stationery stores will be the destinations of choice for parents (60.8%) who will seek to find items cheaper than in past years due to inflation, revealed the Retail Council of Canada in its recent study. .
Unlike previous years, parents will be shopping for school supplies later this year. “This is a change from 2021 and 2022, when consumers shopped much earlier for back to school because they feared many items would be out of stock. Now that the supply problems have been resolved, they plan to make their purchases closer to the start of the school year,” the CCCD said in a press release.
However, while nearly a quarter of respondents (15.7%) plan to make their purchase a week before the start of the school year, nearly 29.5% of Canadians plan to do so two to four weeks in advance.
More than 80% of Canadians plan to shop at stores near their homes rather than shopping online. This is double the percentage observed last year.
The probe was carried out in July via a mobile platform and an online panel, respectively with 9,165 and 9,848 Canadians aged 18 and over.
