the essential
The final of “Top Chef” 2023 opposed Wednesday evening Danny to Hugo. The two cooks had to prepare a whole meal for one hundred Red Cross volunteers, surrounded by the former candidates. Who really is Hugo, the big winner?

On the one hand Danny, 26, from the brigade of Hélène Darroze, a chef in the running for a fourth victory. On the other Hugo, 24, from the brigade of Philippe Etchebest who had not been in the final for 3 years.

For this grand finale of the 14th season, chef Paul Pairet assisted Hélène Darroze while Glenn Viel was on the side of Philippe Etchebest. And each candidate was able to count on the former candidates to form their brigades. Mission of this final: to prepare an entire menu for one hundred Red Cross volunteers and their ambassador Adriana Karambeu.

Highlight of Danny’s menu: color-changing cauliflower broth. But the planned change of color did not take place on the plates of the guests. Hugo, he put a lot of hope in his mushrooms and his taste around the plant. His starter was appreciated but two of the chefs thought the main course had too much flavor. The chefs showered both contestants with praise for their desserts.

It was first the four chefs of the show who gave their notes: Hélène Darroze preferred Danny’s menu, Philippe Etchebest Hugo’s dishes, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel put the two candidates on a par. The chefs having failed to decide between Danny and Hugo, it was therefore the hundred guests of the Red Cross who had to decide.

As tradition dictates, the finalists discovered the name of the winner thanks to the color of a knife: steel color for the winner, orange for the loser. It was ultimately Hugo who pulled out the winning blade. he won with 54.81% of the vote against 45.19% for Danny. if Hugo let his joy explode, Danny displayed his great disappointment after his defeat.

When he enrolled in “Top chef”, Hugo was second in the kitchen at “Clos des sens” in Annecy.

Stressed since “Top Chef”

What did he learn about himself with “top Chef”? Hugo answers: stress. “I discovered that I could be stressed when it’s not my nature,” he tells TV Magazine. “Otherwise, the competition allowed me to activate my creativity, to push myself to my limits, to do things that I would never have imagined such as the trompe-l’oeil pétanque ball or the upside-down plate” .

He will launch a street food restaurant

Hugo decided to open a street food restaurant. He will embark on this adventure with Albane, another “top Chef” candidate this year. It will be located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. The opening is scheduled for November 2023. He also plans to “do a few residences in Lyon”, return for a week to the restaurant of his former chef in Valence. Objective: that M6 viewers can taste his cuisine.

A pact with Danny

Hugo and Danny were rivals but not enemies. Before the final, the two cooks made “a little pact”. The winner had to give €5,000 to the loser. Hugo officially won €54,900, a sum calculated on the score he obtained. Until 2013, the winner of “Top Chef” received a check for €100,000.
