The camping season has FINALLY begun and we are celebrating it as it should be with three great suggestions from Sylvain Bouchard, beer sommelier.

1- Miss Manon, Brasserie La Mouche, Natashquan
5% alc. /flight.
Prix : 6,49 $ / 500 ml
Serve between 4 and 7 degrees Celsius
The first beer comes from one of the most easterly breweries in the province, La Mouche brewery in Natashquan on the North Shore. Whether it’s the hordes of mosquitoes that plague campers or because many of them take the opportunity to fly-fish while camping, a name like Fly is perfect for a “camping beer” theme. Named Miss Manon, the beer is inspired by hefeweizen German beers, a smooth wheat beer with very little bitterness.
Veiled beer of golden color slightly topped with a small collar. On the nose, we easily perceive the spicy notes of cloves (thanks to the phenols) and fruity notes of banana (thanks to the esters) which are typical of it because of its German yeast. In the mouth, we instantly find the same flavors, followed by notes of wheat providing a nice acidity while freshness. The whole is, as it should be for the style, slightly bitter. Thanks to refermentation in the bottle, the effervescence is lively and even spicy. Sweet, low in alcohol, effervescent and refreshing, bring lots of sunshine, because that’s it, a camping beer.
2-Road beer, La Souche microbrewery, Stoneham
3.5% alc. /flight.
Prix : 5.49 $ / 473 ml
Serve between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius
Darling! We can leave. The tank is packed. The image of a family car loaded like a camel and on its way to the campsite is truly synonymous with summer vacation. And it is precisely this image that the La Souche de Stoneham brewery presents to us with its Bière de route, an English mild ale with Wulong tea.
Orange colored beer with a rather thin neck. On the nose, it is a rather floral tea that greets our nostrils first, followed by butterscotch and finally the fruity notes of tea. In the mouth, we find a caramel malt without its usual sweet taste. For its part, Wulong tea brings notes of pear and apricot, but also a superb typical dryness (astringency). The obvious English yeast (pepper notes) makes sense in this set. More dry than bitter, it has a rather slender body. For lovers of typical English beers, refreshing, light, balanced and low in alcohol, too bad it can only be a road beer in our dreams!
3- Talk talk, talk talk, Microbrasserie Jackalhop, Plessisville
3.8% alc./vol.
Prix : 5.49 $ / 473 ml
Serve between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius
Camping, more than any other summer activity, allows you to get away from everyday life. The long days spent outdoors with relatives and friends provide the ideal setting to discuss all subjects. When camping, it’s easy to talk. The guys from the Jackalhop microbrewery in Plessisville in the Bois-Francs region are offering an IPA session at only 3.8% alcohol called Parle parle, jase jase that will follow you throughout its long oratorical exchanges.
Pale blond beer with an impressive cloudy character (haze) topped with a rather thin neck. The nose is fruity (tangerine, pineapple, mango) thanks to modern hops used in cold hopping. It smells like the sun! On the palate, behind a surprisingly ample texture for so little alcohol, lies the much sought-following fruity character of NEIPA A very lively effervescence (!) rather rare for the style as well as a low 3.8% of alcohol bring a feeling of very pleasant lightness. Camping beer you say?!?
