Citroën Holidays: There Retro-Camper

1/7

Citroën’s cool retro camper based on the Spacetourer transporter will be launched on the market in spring.

Hello Citroën! The camper world has never seen a cooler van than the Type Holidays concept presented last year (in reference to the iconic Type H). The basis is the Spacetourer transporter with two sliding doors, optically thrown into a retro shell by the Italian coachbuilder Caselani. Distinguishing features: googly-eyed headlights from the Fiat 500, an oversized radiator grille with a Citroën mega wing and large corrugated metal patterns. The interior design of Bravia Mobil remains classic: at the back there are various cupboards in a wood look, in front there is a kitchenette with a hob, sink and refrigerator. The two-seater bench can be converted into a bed; There are two more sleeping options upstairs in the pop-up roof. From spring onwards, the Holidays will arrive at Citroën dealers in both the usual Spacetourer look and (for an additional charge) as a Caselani retromobile. You can choose from two diesel engines (145/180 hp) with a manual switch or an automatic transmission. Prices? Are not yet known. The predecessor started at 57,200 francs.

More unknown campervans

Ford Nugget: The biggest Bulli opponent

1/6

The Nugget based on the latest Ford Transit Custom remains true to its concept: instead of the usual front, it has its pop-up roof at the back.

Based on the new Transit Custom, Ford is also introducing the Nugget camper version this year. The new gold piece (English: Nugget) remains true to its tried and tested concept: While the camper top dog VW California raises its roof to the front, you place it in the back of the Nugget – this creates the necessary headroom for a kitchen in the rear in which you can can prepare your espresso upright in the morning without folding the double bed in the rear. There is space for two more people in the roof bed. The base Nugget comes in summer with a 170 hp (125 kW) turbodiesel with 8-speed automatic and front-wheel drive; All-wheel drive is also available as an option. It wasn’t until the end of the year that Ford offered the campervan with a plug-in hybrid drive with 232 hp (171 kW) for the first time. The electric range is likely to be around 50 kilometers. There are no prices yet – the Transit Custom Nugget currently starts at around 62,000 francs.

Mercedes V-Class Marco Polo: The noble adventurer

1/6

It’s not just the V-Class passenger transporter that’s being relaunched this year. The Marco Polo camper version is also being revised by Mercedes.

With the completely revised V-Class, Mercedes is also relaunching the Marco Polo camper version. On the outside, the elegant camper boasts an illuminated radiator grille, and on the inside there is now optional ambient lighting in 64 colors. The networking, multimedia system and driving assistants are also being updated. A warm air additional heater in the interior with “yacht-look flooring” ensures comfort even on cool days. You sleep on the 2-seater bench, which folds down into a comfortable lounger next to the kitchenette. There is space for two more passengers in the electrically extendable pop-top roof. The Marco Polo is offered in diesel variants with 163 to 237 hp (120 to 174 kW) with rear- or all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Prices start at around 87,900 francs. There will not be a purely electric version based on the recently revised EQV (click here for the driving report).

VW T7 California: The fresh original

1/6

In the summer, VW will present the latest California based on the Transporter T7. In autumn 2023, the German car manufacturer has already given an outlook with the near-series study.

The iconic VW Bulli, the California, is probably the most famous camper van in the world and debuted in 1989 based on the VW T3 at the time. Although the seventh generation has been on the market for over two years, fans are still waiting for the camper version of the T7. In the fall, VW finally gave an outlook and presented the T7 California as a concept – the latest one is scheduled to celebrate its official premiere in the summer. For the first time, the new T7 California will have two sliding doors on the left and right and a particularly practical kitchen solution. The near-production study is protected from rain or sun on both sides with an articulated arm awning or a sun sail. Many other practical details such as kitchen cupboards accessible from inside and outside, a compact grill in the kitchen block or USB-C sockets and LED lamps in the pop-up roof should also be on board. In addition to a diesel with front-wheel drive, a plug-in variant with optional all-wheel drive will probably follow. The current T6.1 starts as California Beach from 65,290 francs.
