Big challenge this Monday evening in Top Boss on RTL-TVI. At the start of the program, the candidates still in the running were asked to “rhyme gastronomy and economy”, and therefore to produce exceptional dishes with as little money as possible. Their first task: to go to the market in order to find ordinary products at low prices. Having spent more than their comrades, Jean, Jérémy and Léo did not have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the test and find themselves directly in the eliminatory test.

For their part, Carla, Alexandre, Albane, Mathieu, Sarika and Hugo outdid themselves to wow the taste buds of the chefs invited to judge their dishes. At the end of the event, Carla, Mathieu and Sarika won their ticket for the following week. Alexandre, Albane and Hugo joined the other candidates in the elimination round where they were asked to make a soufflé.

”We lose the soul of the purple brigade”

At the end of the ordeal, Leo left the adventure. “I feel so sorry for you Leodeclares his brigade leader, Paul Pairet facing the candidate in tears. I know you’re a thinking cook. You have very, very nice ideas but maybe sometimes you don’t have all the technical means for your level of thinking. Either way, you fought. The purple brigade has crumbled a bit. We lose our soul a little there with Leo. You are someone I wish I had kept.

Despite the defeat, Leo says to retain from his adventure “the super meeting with the chefs, the sharing, the great victories and the moments of sloshing a little more complicated”. “It’s a great experience. Culinarily, I have grown a bit. Even humanly. It was a unique chance for me to be there”, he says.

Dishes available on Uber Eats in France

This season, Uber Eats has once once more partnered with M6. Until April 18, the winning dishes of the “ordinary products, extraordinary dishes” event are available on the application and can be delivered in certain regions of France (Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Nantes and Paris). Lovers of Top Boss and good food were able to test Carla’s starter (leeks and cockles, fresh from the market), Mathieu’s main course (tasty savings, sardines and straw potatoes) as well as Sarika’s dessert (lemon and celery).

The price of the menu? 35 euros per person. An amount well above what the candidates spent to make their dish on the show. In total, for a starter, a main course and a dessert, the three candidates only paid 3.98 euros, or almost 9 times less. In Top Boss, however, labor was not included in the price. An element that makes all the difference and that considerably increases the price of the dishes.

During the press conference Top BossPhilippe Etchebest had warned once morest “amalgam fillings” that some might do. “In Top Boss, the contestants were asked to bring out a gourmet dish at a lower cost. This is not representative of the reality of restaurants. In Top Boss, we just stop at the product. In real life, we take into account everything behind it, such as fixed costs, investments and labour. We must not think that we are thieves or that we are confusing people because we offer more expensive dishes in our restaurants. I say this because shortcuts are sometimes scary.”
