For today’s children, “Discman”, “Tamagotchi” or “Diddl” seem like old relics. Some toys from back then would still come in handy now.
From today’s perspective, the 1990s seem like a decade between two worlds. Internet, smartphones or even virtual realities were not yet a big topic. Records, typewriters or shoulder pads were a thing of the past.
This condition is also reflected in the toys that came onto the market at the time. These nine products from the 1990s are characterized by more plastic, more technology and a good dose of retro chic.
Here you can find out which toy of your childhood you are.
1. Furby
In 1998, the company began selling the Furby electronic cuddly toy worldwide. Children everywhere enjoyed the funny giggles of the animal, a hybrid of an owl, a mouse, a cat and a bat. The device was able to play around 200 words in “Furbisch”.
2. Roller skates
Which child has not dreamed of rolling, colorful shoes? And if you are honest with yourself, you would still like to jet through the streets with the uncomfortable plastic parts.
3. Diddl mouse
In the 1990s, a cartoon character by the artist Thomas Goletz celebrated its rise. The “Diddl mouse” circulated as a cuddly toy, sticker and cartoon character. Most of you will know them from your school days, when pages from the Diddl drawing pads made the rounds in the schoolyard.
3. Discman
It felt so cool to finally be able to listen to your favorite CD on the go. While the “Discman” only had a short lifespan, anyone who grew up in the 1990s will secretly wish it was back.
4. Tamagotchis
The “Tamagotchi” has driven many parents insane. Why the hell did all the kids suddenly want to take care of a battery-powered creature? Only the 90s kids can answer that themselves.
5. Game-Boy
Nintendo’s Game Boy was first sold in Japan in 1989. It was first available in Europe in 1990. At that time, the small gaming computer still had 2D graphics with few colors. The hype continues to this day and the devices are now state-of-the-art.
6. Snake (Nokia 3210)
If you had a Nokia 3210 with you in the classroom, you didn’t have to worry regarding its coolness. Everyone wanted to play “Snake” and let the poorly animated snake grow as long as possible. The Nokia 3210 was launched in 1999.
7. Magic troll
The teased hairstyles of magic trolls were probably a holdover from the 1980s, but made a comeback in the 1990s. Hasbro’s magic troll dolls are now popular collector’s items.
8. Polly Pocket
A whole world of dolls in a small box. That childhood dream came true in the 1990s with Polly Pocket.
9. Kroko-Doc
Who can pull the crocodile’s tooth? Many children in the 1990s asked themselves this question, and it was answered with the game “Croco-Doc”. In any case, the thrill of when the green mouth snaps shut occupied many of them.
You will find 17 words here that only mean something completely different for 90s children.
