With such a cover, it wasn’t guaranteed to be album of the year… Except that no one in France competed with this record released last winter. It’s been a long time since we understood that Jean Felzine is our best lyricist. He surpasses himself here, and manages to shine even when he talks about male sterility (“Blank”). Melancholic and mocking, he sings divinely, with minimal but polished production. “It’s Roy Orbison and Maurice Pialat playing the synth,” says Felzine. For our part, we think of the stripped-down songs of Neil Young and Springsteen on the soundtrack of Philadelphia. “I still live”, “Doudou”, “This woman is a mystery”: this man is a crack.
