Toolcraft starts 3D printing aluminum on Farsoon metal printer

The German supplier Toolcraft has taken a metal printer from Farsoon into use. It is a mid-size system with 4 lasers for 3D printing aluminum. The two companies have also agreed to collaborate on both further productivity optimization and embedding the AM system in third-party QC systems.

Toolcraft has chosen the 3D metal printer FS422M-4 from the Chinese company Farsoon after an extensive benchmark. This is a Laser Powderbed Fusion system with a building volume of 425 by 425 by 550 mm with four lasers and scanners. This machine, developed with series production in mind, also delivers good surface quality at high speeds, for example when printing with aluminum. Toolcraft is a family business from Georgensmünd (in Bavaria) that supplies CNC and AM parts to customers in the semiconductor industry, aerospace industry, medical industry and automotive sector.

High speed and surface quality in 3D printing are decisive for Toolcraft

Immediately used for production after the first purchase

Toolcraft has already printed the first aluminum components for delivery to external customers. Christoph Hauck, responsible for technology and sales at Toolcraft, says he is pleasantly surprised that the AM system was right from the first purchase and could be used for production. Dirk Simon, director of Farsoon Europe, says that Toolcraft has put pressure on the Chinese manufacturer with the high quality requirements of the aluminum parts at the lowest possible production costs. “The result achieved is very encouraging for us to work with Toolcraft in a development partnership to further optimize the system to produce better metal parts at lower production costs.”

Further cost reduction

The two companies have signed a cooperation agreement. They will use their complementary competences and knowledge to further optimize the process. Think not only of settings, but also of the use of peripheral equipment with the aim of further reducing the production costs per part. They also want to integrate the Farsoon software with the quality control systems that Toolcraft uses from external partners.
