The launch of a new version of macOS is certainly a cause for celebration for anyone who has a recent Mac, but anyone who only has an older Apple computer already knows that they probably won’t receive most of the new features released for the system — at most, Safari news or security improvements.

If it depends on OpenCore Legacy Patcherhowever, a series of machines that have stopped receiving updates for a long time will be able to be updated to the macOS Sonoma 14, the latest version of the operating system. With its version 1.0.0 duly released, the project promises to take the system to nothing less than 83 Macs who don’t officially support it!

Among the models honored are several Macs launched between 2008 and 2019 — which means that even very old computers can gain a lifespan with the latest system thanks to patch not official.

Obviously, features that depend on hardware launched over the last few years will not work on older models, but it is interesting to be able to count on the most up-to-date in terms of graphical interface or less robust features.

Among the most notable limitations present is the lack of support for the T1 security chip, but the team behind OpenCore Legacy Patcher hopes to be able to resolve this issue over time.
