Tony Khan had a complicated press conference following the broadcast of AEW All OutThe President of All Elite Wrestling watched as CM Punk charged several of his locker room mates, ensuring that the EVPs (Executive Vice Presidents) were not controlling the news leaks coming out of the locker room.
After presenting all the invited fighters, Khan was left alone before the press and spoke regarding various current issues such as, precisely, the problems behind the scenes. The President admitted that there are problems between talents, but he tried to understand the situation, interpreting that these situations can be used to take them to the ring.
“It’s a dangerous, contentious and frankly challenging situation, but I have to do what’s best for the good of the company“, admitted Khan. “Everyone who is talking is great professional fighters, with great reputations. Some of them have been from the beginning and some have been for a year. The fact is, they are people who drive revenue and help create jobs for everyone. It’s no secret that many professional wrestlers don’t like each other., but I think it’s more out in the open now than it’s been in a long time, and I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing for the pro wrestling business given the product that we produce. It involves tension and people wanting to fight and people know there are a lot of people around here who want to fight each other and I don’t think that’s a very bad thing.”
“The industry has thrived on creative tension for a long time. You might say, ‘what if it doesn’t manifest in combat right away? In the ’90s, which is possibly the biggest spike of interest of all time, in the late ’90s and early 2000s, there was a large group of professional wrestlers who didn’t like each other and didn’t get along. A lot of times, they weren’t in the same companies and tickled each other, but that didn’t translate into a fight right away. We produce wrestling matches and there are a lot of matches between people who don’t get along and don’t like each other, and it’s not always easy to get people in the ring. But when you can get people in the ring to settle their differences it can be exciting“.
“I don’t like everything either. I don’t like everything that people say, like people who work here who have come out to criticize me, blatantly, in public. I’m a pretty nice guy and I’m very flexible. It’s nice to be in Being here, seeing a lot of my friends, I have a pretty calm demeanor, in general, and I’m willing to put up with a lot of abuse. I have a service behavior. I try to serve the people and that includes the fans. I’d be happy to lend a hand or do whatever it takes to make someone feel better. I will do what is right for the business when I have to. I’ve been told as much in the last few months as anyone, and sometimes you just have to accept it and get on with business, and that’s part of it.”
